Cursed Totem

A blanket switch that turns off an entire category of interaction at once. Where most hatebears and disenchant-bait answer a single creature or a single combo piece, this shuts down every creature's activated ability on the board, friend and foe alike, for two mana. The symmetry is what prices it: it is genuinely punishing, so it costs almost nothing, and the toll for running it is that your own mana dorks, sacrifice outlets, tutoring creatures, and pingers go dark along with theirs. The clause is precise in a way that rewards reading it twice. It stops activated abilities (the ones with a cost and a colon) but leaves triggered abilities, mana abilities printed as triggers, and static abilities untouched, which is why it answers a creature-based engine without answering the creatures themselves. The catch is that it has to resolve first: because it is cast as a spell that uses the stack, an opponent holding priority can activate every creature ability they want in response before the static lock ever applies, draining their dorks or firing their sacrifice line on the way down. The effect only bites once it is on the battlefield. As a two-mana artifact it sits in the lineage of cheap, color-agnostic prison pieces that build a single rule and let the table sort out who it hurts more. The honest read is a tax you pay knowingly: you run it when the format's most dangerous engines all route through a creature's tap or sacrifice line, and you accept that your own deck has to win without leaning on the same mechanic.
