Cunning Evasion

Enchantment1 generic manaBlue mana

Blocking is a declaration, not a payoff: the moment a defender is assigned, combat damage is still a step away, and this enchantment lives in that gap. When your creature becomes blocked, the trigger resolves before damage, and bouncing the attacker to hand fizzles the block entirely: the blocker is left assigned to nothing, dealing and taking no damage, while you keep a body to redeploy. This is a passive engine for evasive aggression, but it earns its keep on creatures that resent being on the battlefield in the first place. Anything with an enter-the-battlefield trigger becomes repeatable: attack to draw a block, return to hand, recast to fire the trigger again. It also doubles as a soft protection blanket, pulling a creature out of a losing combat before damage is assigned. The cost is real, and it is a tempo cost, not a mana one: you must attack to trigger it, and every save asks you to spend a turn recasting the body you just rescued. That math favors a board of cheap, high-impact one- and two-drops over expensive threats you can only afford to redeploy once. What reads like a single-creature fog is closer to a standing permission slip: it turns the opponent's block from a wall into a punishable mistake, but only during the one window the game hands you, when blockers hit the table.
