Culling Ritual

Sorcery2 generic manaBlack manaGreen mana

The genius here is that the sweep pays for itself. Wraths that hit small permanents are common enough, but they usually cost you tempo: you spend four mana clearing the board and then pass with an empty hand. This one refunds you, one black or green mana for every nonland permanent it kills, and the payout scales with exactly how cluttered the board was. Against a wide, cheap deck the two-mana ceiling catches nearly everything (creatures, mana dorks, small enchantments, artifacts, planeswalkers that snuck in under the line), and the mana it hands back can be dumped immediately into a haymaker the turn's leftover mana could never have reached. The refund is worthless if the board is empty, though, so this is not a proactive tool: it is a punishment for opponents who overcommit to a low curve. It also cuts both ways. Your own permanents above the two-mana line survive, so the card rewards a deck built with a deliberate gap between its cheap threats and its expensive payoffs. That structural demand (spend nothing worth keeping under three mana, hoard the ritual for a full opposing board, then convert the wreckage into something the opponent has no answer for) is what makes the design more than a one-sided sweeper. It is a wrath and a Dark Ritual welded into a single sorcery, and the fusion is the whole idea.
