Cudgel Troll

Creature — Troll2 generic manaGreen manaGreen mana

Four power on a four-mana green body is fine; the Green mana regeneration shield is what made this troll a wall opponents hated to attack into. As long as a single green mana sits open, it survives anything that tries to destroy it: a removal spell, a chump-block against a bigger attacker, the wrong end of a combat trade. The cost is that regeneration only catches destruction. It does nothing against the effects that quietly grew more common as power crept upward: exile, edicts, bounce, minus-X toughness, sacrifice. So it occupies a specific niche in the regeneration lineage, the green workhorse that walls off the burn-and-block style of removal while leaving the door open for everything that sidesteps the word "destroy." Each shield also costs a mana and lasts only until used, so a 4/3 that has to leave a green up to stay alive is paying real tempo to be unkillable in the one narrow way it can be. That tension, a body costed as a beater but defended like a brick, is the whole appeal: it pushes combat math onto the opponent, who must either find non-destruction removal or accept that swinging into it is a losing trade. A clean, honest read on what a regenerator was for before evergreen removal moved past destruction.
