The modal split is the entire pitch. Two answers, each too narrow to maindeck on its own, fused into one slot that stays live across more boards than either half could justify alone, with the pilot choosing which problem to solve at the instant of casting. Green's role on the ground has always been to block all day while struggling to interact with flyers, and reach-or-bust is rarely something the color wants to commit a whole card to; artifact removal, by contrast, sits squarely in green's wheelhouse but goes dead the moment the opponent isn't fielding one. Bundling the two means the worst case (one mode irrelevant) is covered by the other, and that flexibility is also the ceiling: each half is inert outside its lane, so the card is never better than the target it happens to be pointed at. The instant timing carries more weight than the rate suggests. You hold the choice through the opponent's turn and answer an attacking flyer mid-combat or a just-resolved artifact on their clock, rather than tipping your hand on your own main phase and letting them play around it. Green has a long tradition of these stapled-together contingency answers, two situational effects welded into one that earns its keep by covering both cases at once. A clean exercise in color-pie discipline that asks nothing clever of the caster beyond reading which mode the board actually needs.
