Cruel Deceiver

Creature — Spirit1 generic manaBlack mana

Two activations, two costs, and the gap between them is where the whole design lives. The cheaper one buys private information: look at the card waiting to be drawn, learn whether the deck is about to cooperate, tell nobody. The costlier one is the payoff, but it carries a public tax. You reveal that same card to the entire table, and the deathtouch-style trigger only attaches if what you flip is a land. The sequencing is the puzzle: spend the small cost to learn the answer, then spend the large cost to commit to it, swinging a fragile 2/1 into a creature you would otherwise never trade with and killing it on contact. It is a two-step ritual where library knowledge feeds combat math, and the player who has done the homework gets to act on information the opponent never sees until it is too late to matter. The body is the constraint that keeps it fair: at 2/1 the threat dies to almost anything, so the destroy-on-damage clause reads as a deterrent more than an engine, live only on a turn the draw obliges and only after you have paid to make it so. This is bookkeeping-before-damage design from an era that liked asking creatures to do clerical work before they earned their swing: conditional reward, public condition, and a small mana investment in simply knowing what comes next.
