Cranial Extraction

Sorcery — Arcane3 generic manaBlack mana

Surgical extraction with no time limit. Where a counterspell answers one copy on the stack and a discard spell answers one in hand, this rips a chosen name out of every zone a card can hide in (the library, the hand, and the graveyard at once) and then shuffles away the search. It answers the problem all proactive disruption faces: how do you neutralize a four-of without spending four cards? It cheats the math by treating the name as the target rather than the card, so a single sorcery erases the opponent's entire allotment of their best threat. That is why it became a canonical answer to combo decks, where naming the linchpin (a key tutor target, a kill spell, the one card a deck cannot win without) functionally disqualifies an archetype before the game starts. The price of that power is the tempo it ignores: it does nothing to the board, develops nothing, and only matters against a deck built around a specific card it can name. Against a deck with redundancy, four mana to remove four copies of one effect is a poor trade. Its lineage runs through the strip effects that followed (the Praetor's Grasp and Memoricide line, all of them asking how to answer a deck rather than a card), but this is the version that named the genre.

Choose a nonland card name. Search target player's graveyard, hand, and library for all cards with that name and exile them. Then that player shuffles.
