Coretapper

Artifact Creature — Myr2 generic mana

Charge counters were a defining resource of their era, and this 1/1 Myr exists to manufacture them on demand. Most ways to accumulate counters trickle in one trigger at a time; Coretapper compresses that math two ways. The tap ability supplies a counter every turn, but the sacrifice clause is the genuinely clever piece of design: it converts the fragile body itself into a stored burst of two counters, deliverable at the exact moment a payoff needs to cross a threshold rather than over several turns of waiting. That front-loading is the whole strategic axis. The classic partner is Darksteel Reactor, which wins outright once it holds twenty charge counters; Coretapper plus any untap effect collapses that clock, and the sacrifice mode lets you sprint across the final stretch when the counter count is close. The cost of all this versatility is a target: the card produces nothing in a deck without an artifact worth feeding, so it is not a generic accelerant but purpose-built infrastructure for an artifact-counters plan. As a creature it is too small to matter in combat and too narrow to splash; its entire reason to be on the battlefield is to push another permanent toward a number it could not otherwise reach in time.
