Conjurer's Ban

Naming a card to lock it out for a turn is a strange kind of removal: it does not answer what is on the battlefield, it answers what is in the hand or the library, a card you have to predict rather than see. That predictive demand is the whole tension. Against a known threat (the combo piece an opponent has already telegraphed, the one bomb their deck leans on) it strips a turn of access cleanly; against an unknown hand it is a coin flip dressed as interaction. The cantrip stapled underneath is the concession that makes the guessing game playable: even when the name you call turns out wrong, you replace the card, so a missed read costs you the tempo of two wasted mana but never card advantage. The lock reaches lands too, which is the underrated half: name the single nonbasic a plan hinges on and the play is denied for a full turn cycle. The effect sits in a small lineage of name-a-card disruption that runs from Meddling Mage forward, but where the Mage parks a body in front of the named spell indefinitely, this trades permanence for breadth (any one name, spell or land, for exactly one turn) and folds the replacement card into the same two mana. A clean, transient piece of information warfare, built for the player who would rather wager on what an opponent is holding than wait for it to land.
