Conduit Pylons

Land — Desert

The trade every five-color manabase eventually confronts: how much do you pay for the privilege of casting anything? This one asks for a tap and one generic on top of the tap for colored output, which is the classic rainbow-land tax, but it folds in a card-selection trigger to soften the sting of entering untapped-but-slow. The surveil on entry is the real design lever: a fixer this conditional lives or dies on smoothing draws, and looking at your top card (with the option to bin it) turns a purely reactive mana source into something that actively tightens your sequencing. The colorless mode at no additional cost keeps it honest as a land that always does something the turn it lands, so you are never fully hostage to the tax. Being a Desert rather than a plain land is not decoration; it feeds the small but persistent lineage of cards that count Deserts in the graveyard or care about the type on the battlefield, which gives an otherwise generic fixer a second axis of relevance. The structural ancestor here is the taplands-plus-value school of fixing: pay a rate premium, get a rider that pays it back over the game. Where older rainbow lands often entered tapped or leaked life, this one keeps its speed and hands you information instead.
