Escalate cards usually bill you in cards: each extra mode costs a discard, shrinking your hand to grow the effect. This one prices the escalation in tempo instead, asking you to tap an untapped creature for every mode beyond the first. That single substitution rewrites who the spell is for. Where hand-payment escalate lives in decks flush with cards, tapping bodies lives naturally in a deck wide enough to spare attackers and patient enough to fire it at sorcery speed. The three modes form a tidy white toolbox: removal that respects the color's old caveat by answering only the big threats (power 4 or greater), the enchantment answer white has always carried, and an anthem-style counter spread that turns a stalled board into a lethal one. Choose all three and you can clear a problem creature, strip an enchantment, and pump your team in a single cast, paying by tapping two creatures. That third mode is the tell about its intended home: a go-wide deck taps two attackers to destroy a blocker and a Pacifism effect, then sends the rest in bigger, recouping the tapped creatures instantly through the counters they just gained. The friction of committing live attackers is what keeps the all-modes line honest: you cannot cash in your whole board and still swing the same turn. Removal, answer, and finisher stacked into one card, priced not in life or cards but in the one resource a creature deck has to spare.
