Cold Storage
An exile-and-return engine years before the archetype had a name. The two activations form a closed loop: pay three to tuck a creature away, then crack the artifact to return everything stored at once. The pump-and-dump rhythm is the design idea, and it pays off in two directions. As a defensive tool, it answers a one-sided board wipe or a targeted removal spell by removing your best creatures from harm's reach, then bringing them back after the threat resolves. As an offensive engine, every trip through exile re-triggers enter-the-battlefield abilities, so a deck full of creatures that do something on arrival can launder value through it until the sacrifice cashes the whole stash in one burst. The brakes are built into the math: each creature stored costs three mana on top of the body it removes, so banking a wide board is slow and expensive, and the artifact fires its return clause only once before it is gone. That tension (cheap to set up, costly to fill, single-use to empty) is why it never became a degenerate value loop on its own. It needed creatures worth saving and a reason to want them back twice, which is precisely the kind of build-around problem that flicker decks have been solving with newer, cleaner tools ever since.
