Coastal Bulwark

Artifact Creature — Wall2 generic mana

A wall that scales its guard duty to your color commitment: a 1/3 that becomes a 3/3 the moment an Island hits the battlefield, which is the difference between chump-blocking early aggression and actually stopping it. Three toughness plus three power is enough to hold the line against most of what comes at it in the opening turns, and Defender keeps it honest by ensuring the buff only ever makes the creature a better blocker, never a threat that sneaks in for damage. The surveil ability is the second job, and the more revealing one: for a repeated cost paid across turns, this becomes a slow filtration engine that smooths draws and stocks a graveyard, the sort of card-selection work usually parceled out to enchantments or dedicated dig spells rather than folded into a two-mana blocker. Both halves point the same direction. The Island clause rewards the exact color that most wants a body to hide behind while it assembles its plan, and the surveil rewards the deck that wants to sculpt what it draws and feed a yard. It is built to buy time and manufacture incidental card quality, not to win a game outright. The coherence is in that alignment: a defensive artifact whose blocking value and its selection value both belong to the same patient, blue-leaning shell.
