The cheapest, cleanest blink spell white ever got, and the version every later flicker design gets measured against. The exile-and-return happens instantly: a creature you control leaves and comes back as a new object, which means any enters-the-battlefield trigger fires again, any aura or counter or attachment falls off, and the creature lands as a fresh permanent with none of its prior history attached. That last property is what makes it more than a value spell. It is a one-mana answer with a narrow but reliable application: a destruction spell aimed at your creature, a fight, a Pacifism-style enchantment lock, all of these resolve into nothing when the creature blinks out and resets clean. The targeting clause is the constraint that defines the card: it only reaches a creature you control, so it cannot reclaim something an opponent has stolen, and pointing it at a creature you have temporarily borrowed makes that theft permanent rather than undoing it. The discipline to learn is what it does not do. Blinking removes the creature from combat rather than re-declaring it, so it generates no new attack, and it offers no protection against sacrifice effects, which point at the player rather than the creature. Its real strategic axis is the instant-speed window: at a single white mana you can save a creature in response to targeted removal, or reload an entire ETB engine at a moment a sorcery-speed flicker effect can never reach. Later cards widened the template by exiling until end of turn, hitting multiple permanents, or stapling the effect to a body, but they all traded away the thing this does flawlessly: the creature returns this turn, permanently yours, with every trigger refreshed.
