Artifact Creature — Golem4 generic mana

A 3/1 for four mana is a terrible rate by any combat math you care to run, and that is exactly the point: the body is a delivery vehicle for the regeneration ability stapled to it. The stats are small because the resilience is the product. Land the Golem, and from then on every two mana you hold up is a refusal to die, a drain on the opponent's removal options, and a permanent threat that ordinary trades cannot resolve. In an era before the modern damage rules, regeneration on a colorless body was a genuine structural answer to point removal: an artifact that shrugged off targeted burn as long as you had the mana floating, sidestepping the removal spells of the day rather than the sweepers that explicitly deny regeneration. The friction lives in the activation cost. Two mana per regeneration is a recurring payment, not a one-time shield, so the creature cannot trade up indefinitely without bleeding the resources it takes to develop a board; that tax is what keeps a 3-power evasionless body honest. Today the rate is obsolete and the keyword has largely been retired from new design, but the card still shows exactly how the game's early designers reasoned about staying power: not hexproof, not indestructible, just a mana payment you could keep making until the opponent ran out of answers.
