Cinder Wall

Creature — WallRed mana

Red almost never gets walls, and this is what one looks like when it does: a roadblock that explodes the moment it does its job. The body is sized to stop nearly anything once, but the defender keyword pins it in place, and the block-then-die clause turns it into a single-use barricade that trades up exactly one time before crumbling. The fiction is sound; it is a wall of cinders, structurally impressive until something leans on it. What makes the card a curiosity is how baldly it states red's relationship with the Wall archetype: white and blue get walls that hold a line indefinitely, green gets walls that ramp, and red gets a wall that self-destructs. The kill clause is a delayed trigger that resolves at end of combat, so the timing only matters against attackers small enough not to kill it outright: against three power or more, the wall is already dead to state-based actions in the combat damage step, and the trigger has nothing left to destroy. Against a one or two power attacker, though, it absorbs the blow, lives through damage, then crumbles on its own schedule, which can be a marginally cleaner outcome than a chump block. It is an honest piece of color-pie engineering from an era when red was still allowed brief, conditional access to defensive tools, before the color's identity hardened into pure aggression and burn.
