The snow tax is the whole exchange. As a plain 3/3 for four, the body is unremarkable, but the monstrosity activation demands six mana with two of it snow-specific, gating the upgrade behind a manabase already committed to producing snow rather than any six lands you happen to have. Pay it and the creature swells and gains evasion at once, so the payoff arrives as one lump rather than a slow accrual of counters. That coupling is the design point: monstrosity is normally just a one-time size boost, but here the flying is welded to the monstrous state itself, granted by a static ability that switches on the moment the counters land. The result is a creature with no middle setting: grounded and mediocre, or airborne and threatening, nothing in between. The doubled snow requirement is what keeps the flip from being cheap; half-committing to snow leaves the activation stranded, so the card only earns its keep in a pool built around snow sources for other reasons anyway. What results is a mana sink with a hard prerequisite: a creature that sits quietly on curve, absorbs a removal spell if the opponent respects it, and converts a flooded hand and a snow-heavy pool into a finisher late. The evasion clause is the reason to bother. A 5/5 on the ground rarely closes games; a 5/5 that flies once the snow is online can.
