Fixing that fills the hand rather than the field, so the value here is card advantage and color-smoothing at once: it enters, hunts up a basic, and hands it to you to play on your own schedule. What separates it from the pile of three-mana find-a-basic bodies is the type line. A creature that reads as every creature type at once is a warm body for any tribe short on numbers, so it feeds anthem effects, lord counts, and "whenever a creature of the chosen type enters" hooks while it goes and does its fetching. Elf, Goblin, Merfolk, Sliver, Ally: it is all of them simultaneously, which is what the Changeling keyword has always been for, a deckbuilding solvent that lets a single card patch a tribe's roster and count toward triggers it has no business counting toward. Stapling that solvent to a smoothing trigger is a clean way to earn a role-player a slot in a themed deck that would otherwise never spend three mana on a basic-land tutor. The 1/2 body is doing exactly what the design needs: survive a point of incidental damage, trade with a one-drop, occupy a creature-type slot without demanding an answer. It is glue, not payoff, and the card knows which one it is.
