Chameleon, Master of Disguise

The clone with a fallback body. The enter-as-a-copy Shapeshifter, from Clone forward, has always carried the same structural risk: with nothing worth copying, it enters as a 0/0 and dies to state-based actions before it does anything. This one hedges that by keeping a printed 2/3 for as its floor, so the worst case is a mediocre body rather than an empty board slot. The copy is layered on top: you take the best creature you control when one exists, and settle for the vanilla stat line when it does not. That does not make it a great rate on an empty board, but it removes the pure whiff, the failure the archetype has never fully solved. Mayhem changes the economics rather than the timing: discard him to any outlet and recast that same turn for , turning what would be a loss (a copy target you no longer have, a hand you needed to dump) into a discounted body on a board you can see right now. It is a rebate off a discard, not a way to bank the card for later; holding him in hand is what defers the copy decision. The name-retention clause handles the legend-rule bookkeeping cleanly, since the copy is always named Chameleon, Master of Disguise: he can mirror your own legendary threats without a second legend collapsing the play, and only another Chameleon ever collides. Strong when the copy is live, merely acceptable when it is not, and never a dead draw.
