Cerodon Yearling

Creature — BeastRed manaWhite mana

Vigilance and haste pull a creature in opposite temporal directions: haste says swing the turn it lands, vigilance says it stays back to block while it does. Stapling both onto a two-mana 2/2 produces a body that is always doing something useful, attacking the turn it arrives without surrendering the home it would otherwise need to defend. That combination is exactly the kind of design that explains why this slot lives in red-white: red supplies the immediacy, white supplies the defensive posture, and the two-color cost is what buys the right to have both at once on a creature this cheap. The numbers themselves are deliberately plain, a vanilla 2/2 underneath the keywords, because the keyword pair is the whole point and a larger body would have priced the effect out of an aggressive curve. What it offers is tempo without the usual tax: most haste creatures ask you to accept a wall that does nothing on the swing-back, and most vigilant creatures ask you to wait a turn before they matter. This asks for neither. The design is a tidy statement of what a two-color aggressive deck wants from a two-drop, which is a creature that pressures the opponent immediately and then keeps pressuring while still holding the fort, all for a cost cheap enough to keep the clock running.
