Cartographer's Survey

Sorcery3 generic manaGreen mana

Where Explosive Vegetation and its descendants fetch specific basics to guarantee two lands, this trades certainty for depth: dig seven cards deep and put up to two of whatever lands surface onto the battlefield tapped. That trade is the axis the whole card turns on. The color-fixing rummagers of green's ramp lineage know exactly what they will get; this one gambles seven cards' worth of variance for the chance to ramp into duals, shocks, and utility lands rather than settling for Forest into Mountain. The floor is real, since a land-light seven yields nothing but a slightly worse deck for the trouble, but the ceiling is a two-land jump pulled from a manabase built around what green cannot normally search for. The tapped clause is what prices the acceleration at four mana: this is a turn-behind ramp piece, meant to advance your board next turn rather than the one you cast it on. Sending the unused cards to the bottom in random order (rather than scrying or discarding) is the quiet tell that this was never meant as card selection; it is a manabase engine that happens to look at seven, and the randomization stops it from doubling as graveyard filler or a library-ordering tool. A ramp spell for decks whose lands are the payoff, not the filler.
