Carnage Altar

Artifact2 generic mana

Three mana to turn a dead creature into a single card is a punishing rate, and that is precisely the point: this was never built to be efficient, it was built to be a sacrifice outlet that any deck can run. The artifact frame is doing the heavy lifting. Where Viscera Seer fires for free but draws nothing, and where black sac outlets demand black mana, this asks only for generic mana, which means it slots into a recursion-and-death-trigger shell regardless of what colors that shell is actually casting from. You pay 3 generic mana per activation, so it cannot be chained into a combust-everything combo turn the way a free outlet can; the activation tax is what keeps it honest, gating each sacrifice behind real mana and forcing the card to behave as a slow value engine rather than a payoff for emptying your board at once. That gap between what it costs and what it returns is exactly why it has always lived at the margins: a colorless answer for grindy black-adjacent builds that want a sacrifice trigger plus a discrete card draw stapled together, and that want it without spending a colored pip to get it. When the better-known outlets are already in the deck, this is the redundant ninth one that asks nothing of your manabase except the mana to pull the trigger.
