Captain's Defense
One word rewrites the entire premise: this spell reads only a creature that has already been declared as a blocker, fencing its pump-plus-cantrip line off from the attacking side of combat entirely. Most of the sprawling Giant Growth family of one-mana tricks in white and green has chased the aggressor's side of the red zone; anchoring the effect to a declared blocker instead flips the polarity, making this a defender's instant built to punish an attacker who misread your board. A routine one-for-one block becomes a two-for-one blowout while your hand size holds steady. The draw is what buys patience: a naked +2/+2 is all-in and replaceable at best, while a bare cantrip is card-neutral but rarely swings a fight. Welding them together lets you sit on the spell until a profitable block appears without paying the tempo cost of having spent a card. The honest limit runs both ways. With no creatures of your own, or across the table from a deck that keeps its ground clear and never overcommits, there is no legal target and the card rots in hand. That is the price of the design, not a flaw in it: where the descendants of Giant Growth reward committing to the attack, this one rewards waiting for the swing that overextends into you.
