Battalion was a Ravnica-era ability word built to reward committing to the board: three attackers turned on a bonus, which meant it lived or died on whether you could afford to send a crowd into open mana. That fragility is what this design reworks. The counters make the attackers permanently bigger, but the indestructible clause is the real payload: once the trigger resolves, the attacking creatures shrug off both destruction effects and combat damage, so profitable blocks stop being profitable and a board wipe fired after resolution accomplishes nothing. The window is the catch, and it is worth stating plainly. Battalion is a triggered ability that uses the stack, so an opponent who casts a sweeper in response to the attack trigger resolves it first and kills the team before the counters or indestructibility land. Damage- and destroy-based interaction has to happen in that gap or before combat entirely; wait until the trigger resolves and that line is locked out (though exile, bounce, sacrifice, and -X/-X still get through). The body reinforces the pattern rather than fighting it: vigilance means the swing never costs a defender, and a flier that holds back on defense keeps the team assembled between turns. What Battalion historically asked was whether you could build a board wide enough to unlock it. The answer here is that once you can, the reward stops being a soft aggro incentive and becomes a recurring anthem: each creature in the attack grows and survives, provided nobody breaks up the crowd before the trigger goes on the stack.
