Call the Skybreaker
Seven mana for a single 5/5 flier is a rate no one would touch on the front of the card; the back half is where the design lives. Retrace converts spent lands into a recurring threat: once the spell sits in the graveyard, every excess land in hand becomes another body, and a flooding draw step turns into pressure. The cards that usually punish a slow deck (the lands you would otherwise sigh at) become the fuel here, so the card's appeal scales with exactly the situation that normally bleeds a control or midrange deck for drawing too long. There is no on-board engine and no token-copying trick required; the engine is the tail end of your library. The hybrid pips suit a card built to be cast in the late turns when colored sources are no longer scarce, letting a mono-blue or mono-red shell reach for it without warping a manabase. The problem it answers is an old one for grindy decks: how to spend a glut of lands on something other than the next land drop. Retrace makes the graveyard a renewable spellbook and the discarded land the per-cast price, so the same card threatens to close a stalled board over several turns rather than once.
