Brown Ouphe

A green hatebear before the term existed, built to do something green almost never does: answer an activated ability on the stack rather than the permanent on the battlefield. Green has always had instant-speed artifact destruction (Naturalize and its kin), but that removes the permanent entirely; this card leaves the artifact alone and counters its activation instead, taxing the engine rather than dismantling it. The targeting is precise and worth reading closely. It silences an activated ability from an artifact source but explicitly cannot touch mana abilities, which is what keeps the effect from doing too much: an unconditional one-drop that shut off every artifact activation, mana rocks included, would lock down half the board at once, so the counter is pointed only at the activations that actually use the stack. The tap symbol is the second valve. Each fire costs its controller two mana plus the tap, and the body untaps only once a turn, so it answers a single activation per cycle rather than policing an engine wholesale. The equipment that wants to move, the artifact creature's pump, the tap-for-value loop: any one of them can be stopped, but only one, and only by paying for it. That throttle is the whole bargain. As a 1/1 it is fragile and trivially ignored where there are no artifact abilities to police. That narrowness is the point: a body that does nothing in most games and chokes a key artifact activation in the rest.
