Brinebarrow Intruder
The -2/-0 is the giveaway that this is a defensive combat trick wearing a creature's clothes. Flash lets it ambush an attacker at instant speed: hold up one mana, and when an opponent swings, drop the body to shrink the incoming damage while adding a 1/2 blocker to the board. The power reduction rather than a toughness debuff is a deliberate choice; it neuters an attacker for a turn without helping you kill it, keeping the card firmly in the blunting-defense lane rather than the removal lane. Because the effect is stapled to a permanent, the tempo you spend buys a lasting blocker instead of evaporating with the spell, which makes it a two-for-one against aggression: soak a hit now, chump or trade later. The -0 clause also means the debuff never touches an opponent's toughness-based tricks or their own lethal math beyond the attack step, so it reads as purely reactive: a tool for surviving a swing rather than setting up your own offense. It is a modest common-slot body built to give blue an early defensive interaction that plays at the same window as its counterspells, but the design is tidy: a flash blocker whose enter trigger is calibrated to save exactly enough life to matter.
