Sorcery3 generic manaBlue mana

Converge turns your manabase into a dial on how much this draws: spend one color and it is a worse Careful Study with extra mana bolted on; spend the maximum four colors and it digs four deep before the discard, netting you two. The fixed discard of two cards is the wrinkle, because it fires no matter how many you drew, so the single-color cast actively costs you cardboard. That asymmetry is the whole tension. The card punishes exactly the focused, disciplined manabases that can least afford the toll: a tight two-color deck gets a clunky, overpriced refill that loses it a card, while a deck stretched across three or four colors gets a real one. The discard does double duty: it is the lever that keeps the low-color cast unappealing, and it is a deliberate graveyard enabler, pitching two cards you want in the bin to power flashback, delve, or reanimation. The sorcery-speed clock and the static two-card discard mean it never works as a reactive draw spell; it asks you to have already solved fixing before you collect, which is converge functioning as designed. It is one of the cleaner illustrations of what the mechanic is for: a payoff gated entirely behind color count, where the ceiling justifies the deckbuilding cost and the floor is built to be ignored by anyone who has not earned it.
