Bright Reprisal

The price is the whole calculus: five mana to kill one creature is a premium nobody pays at sorcery speed, but the restriction to attacking targets earns back the cantrip stapled on top. This is reactive removal that only fires after the opponent commits, and the design trades flexibility for card advantage. You cannot point it at a problem permanent on your own turn, cannot answer a defensive blocker, cannot preempt a threat before it swings; you wait for the attack, then trade up while replacing the card. The window is wider than the "attacking creature" clause first suggests, though, because a creature stays an attacker for the rest of combat: hold the spell through declare-blockers, fire it in the damage step after a favorable block, or wait until end of combat, which lets the kill double as a way to blank a trick or dodge a protection response. That flexibility is the instant-speed clause doing real work, and it makes the card read like a blank until an opponent walks a creature into it, at which point the removal-plus-draw arrives with the tempo of an ambush. White has always kept a stable of these patient answers, effects that punish the swing rather than clear the way, and this one belongs to that reactive tradition. The five-mana cost keeps it honest against the cantrip: you are buying the card draw as much as the kill, and this late, both halves had better land.
