Breakneck Berserker

Creature — Dwarf Berserker2 generic manaRed mana

Three mana for a hasty 3/2 with nothing past the keyword is the most honest kind of common: a rate card built to fill an aggressive curve without asking anything of the deck around it. This is the vanilla-with-haste template that has existed in one form or another since red first got the keyword, and the design purpose is legibility. The player who slots it knows exactly what it does the turn it lands (attack for three) and every turn after (attack for three), and never has to sequence around a trigger or hold up a decision. The Dwarf Berserker typing gestures at a tribe, but the card is not built to reward it; the body and the haste are the whole pitch. What keeps it a role-player rather than pure filler is what haste buys on a two-or-more-power body: it pushes a fixed chunk of damage the moment it resolves, and to a strategy racing toward a life total, that immediacy outweighs a point of toughness or an ability that never fires. The trade is survivability for reach. A 3/2 dies to nearly everything, which is the correct bargain for a creature whose only job is to be swinging the moment it hits the table.
