Boros Locket
A mana rock that refuses to become a topdeck liability. Early, it fixes red and white for three; late, when the draws are all lands and the hand has run dry, four hybrid pips convert it into two fresh cards. That second mode is the whole reason the Locket cycle exists as something other than a two-color rock: the conversion is stapled onto the same artifact you already spent a turn deploying for ramp. The hybrid activation cost is the sly part. Four pips of any mix of red and white means a deck that drifted slightly off its base can still pay it, and a deck that stayed honest empties its hand into it without strain. It is a rate card with a built-in second life, occupying design space that mana rocks usually cede entirely to dedicated draw spells. Nothing about the Boros pairing is unique; the function is identical across the ten Lockets, and the appeal repeats in each: a smoothing tool that cleanly converts into gas once the board is set, so the artifact you cast for acceleration never strands you holding an accelerant with nothing left to accelerate.
