Book Devourer

Creature — Beast5 generic manaRed mana

The wheel attached to a body. The refill trick has always lived in artifacts and enchantments that needed protecting; here the engine and the threat are the same permanent, and the payoff scales with exactly how much you were willing to pitch. The trampling 4/5 is sized to connect, big enough to bully early blockers and push damage through a chump, and the trigger only fires on combat damage to a player, so the card forces the loop it rewards: you have to swing, connect, and accept that the refill arrives after the attack rather than at your leisure. That ordering is the whole tension. You discard your whole hand and redraw the same count midcombat, when the board is already committed and the new cards land too late to change the assault you just declared. The discard is all-or-nothing, not a choice of how many, so the trigger is a straight one-for-one exchange: dump five, draw five; dump one, draw one; empty hand, draw nothing at all. That makes it a churn engine, not a windfall. It filters your grip rather than growing it, which pays off decks that want to bury dead cards and dig for gas, and offers nothing to a player already hellbent and topdecking. A blunt, repeatable rummage bolted to a creature that has to do the dangerous part first before it hands you anything.
