Bog Gnarr

Creature — Beast4 generic manaGreen mana

The pump keys off any player's black spell, which dresses this up as a build-around until you weigh it against the body it sits on: a 2/2 for five mana is well below the curve, so the card pays full retail for a trigger that only fires in a black-heavy shell and only on the turn the spells actually hit the stack. The reward stacks additively across the turn (cast three black spells and it swings as an 8/8), giving it a real ceiling, but that ceiling lives entirely in casting patterns rather than in any game state you can count on. That is the tension this enemy-pair design never quite resolves: it asks you to commit to a two-color disruption-and-removal deck, then leaves the creature inert most turns and hands you a sudden swing only the rare turn the floodgates open. The trigger does at least reward instant-speed play, since a black removal spell or combat trick cast during combat fires it on the defensive turns too; the problem is that the body is too small to capitalize on the bump even when it arrives. It comes out of a brief design experiment in paying creatures for mono-color casting, pitched to colors that had spent the block at each other's throats. The idea aged better in concept than execution: reward players for doing what they were already doing, then pin the payoff to a creature that threatens nothing on the turns the trigger stays quiet.
