Body Double

Creature — Shapeshifter4 generic manaBlue mana

Clone reaches across the table; this one reaches into the dirt, and that single substituted preposition rewrites the whole calculus of when a copy effect is good. The classic blue clone needs a live creature in play and resolves into whatever your opponent left standing. This one feeds on what has already died: your own bomb that got chumped into a wall, the threat a sweeper dragged down with it, the legend that traded away in combat. It improves the longer a game grinds, because graveyards only fill, and the choice is made as it resolves rather than fixed when you cast it. That timing is the strategic axis. You are not committing at sorcery speed and hoping the board holds; you reach back for the best creature any player has lost, so you can let the fight play out, let removal do its work, and only then decide whose corpse to become. Crucially, the copy choice is a replacement effect, not a target: an opponent who exiles or recurs one creature in response does not stop you, you simply name a different one as it resolves. The 0/0 base is the price of admission, not a flaw; it only matters when there is nothing left to copy, in which case the body enters as a 0/0 and dies immediately. Recursion and copying folded into one card, color-pie-clean for blue because it never produces a creature the graveyard did not already hold.
