Enchantment — AuraBlack manaBlack mana

This is land destruction built as a trap rather than a removal spell, and the design tell is in the trigger condition: the aura does nothing on its own. It sits dormant until the enchanted land taps, which means a careful opponent simply leaves it untapped and accepts the lost mana source. That is the structural bargain. The effect is conditional, and the opponent holds the timing. Black already had direct land destruction in this era (Sinkhole did the job for the same color at a cheaper rate, hitting the moment it resolved), so the question this card answers is not whether black can blow up a land but what a contingent, opponent-controlled version of that effect looks like. The answer is something fragile: any way to remove the aura, bounce the land, or simply hold up an alternate source neuters it, and a patient player can route around the trigger for turns. What it represents is more interesting than what it does. Early design leaned hard on the aura-as-removal pattern, where the spell attaches and waits for a future trigger rather than resolving an effect immediately (Paralyze and Feedback share the same era's signature), and the appeal was a slow-motion answer that demanded the opponent walk into it. The template aged out: modern removal resolves on the spot and lets the caster choose the moment. The contingent-aura philosophy that produced this card is the more durable artifact.
