Blacker Lotus

Artifact0 generic mana

The joke depends on you knowing exactly which card it is parodying, and then it makes you pay for the reference literally. Black Lotus gives you three mana of one color and cracks itself in the process, a piece of mana acceleration so efficient it defined the concept. This one gives you four mana instead of three, which sounds like a strict upgrade until you read the effect: you physically tear the card into pieces and remove those pieces from the game, permanently. The design is a gag written in the language of rules text, where "remove the pieces from the game" doubles as a literal instruction to destroy the cardboard in your hand and a mechanical exile clause. It is a silver-bordered card that cannot function twice, cannot be reprinted into your collection without spending the reprint, and turns its own ramp into a one-time transaction paid in the object itself. Where the card it references became the most valuable piece of the game's history, this one is designed to be worth exactly one use before it stops existing. That is the whole comedic argument: the parody yields more mana precisely so the punchline of tearing it up lands harder. It belongs to the tradition of un-set cards that are funny only because they understand the real design conventions well enough to break them on purpose.
