Blackblade Reforged
The two-tier equip cost is the whole design statement. At to suit up a legend and
for everything else, this Equipment is openly built to find a legendary creature and stay there: the discount is steep enough to make it a turn-five play in the right deck and the full price punishing enough that nobody is moving it onto a random token. The buff scales off lands rather than creatures or graveyard size, which ties its ceiling to the one resource a ramp-heavy deck is already accumulating, and it does so without color requirements, so the artifact slots into any base that can run a sizeable battlefield. What makes the math interesting is the timing of when those lands matter: the +1/+1 recalculates continuously, so a midgame land drop or a ramp spell pumps the equipped creature on the spot rather than locking in a number at attach time. That is a quiet aggression to the design, rewarding the deck that plays out its lands instead of holding them. The legendary supertype on the Equipment itself is mostly flavor scaffolding for the named sword, but the equip-discount clause it carries turned a generic "make my creature big" effect into a piece specifically engineered to reward a single legendary spotlight.
