Black Tom Cassidy
A mana dork that ties its incidental upside to a board condition rather than a static clause, which is the whole tell of its design. Green has printed one-drops that tap for a color since the beginning; the rate for a 1/3 body buys durability rather than speed, and the lifegain rider is deliberately conditional: you only bank the point when another Mutant is already on the battlefield. That structure asks you to have committed to a creature theme before the tap even matters, so the life is a payoff for building around a type, not a freebie stapled to the ramp. The 1/3 frame reinforces the intent. It survives the incidental pings and small blockers that punish glass-cannon dorks, letting it sit and produce turn after turn while the tribal board fills out. Nothing here is loud; the design lives in the gap between a body that refuses to trade down and a mana ability that quietly rewards you for the deck you were already going to build.
