Belfry Spirit
Haunt is the keyword that lets a creature post collateral against a future death, and this is its tidiest demonstration. The payout splits in two: the first pair of flying Bats arrives the moment the body enters, front-loaded and unconditional, while the second pair is the deferred half. To collect it, you let the Spirit die, exile it haunting another creature, and wait for that host to die. So the card asks you to lose two creatures: the 1/1 first, then whichever creature you staple the delayed trigger onto, ideally one already expected to die. The strategic axis it lives on is patience versus tempo. You can cash everything in quickly by jamming it into a creature that is about to trade, or bank the haunt clause and let it pay off whenever combat or removal does the work for you. The Bats reading black off a white card is a small color-bleed that says more about haunt's design space than the stat line does: the keyword was built to bleed value forward in time and across colors. The 1/1 frame is doing the balancing. The token output is generous, four flyers across the two triggers, but the creature carrying it folds to anything, which is exactly the disposability a haunt enabler wants. It is meant to die. The question is just when, and onto whom.
