Bee Sting

Sorcery3 generic manaGreen mana

Direct damage from a green card is the curiosity here. Burn has historically belonged to red, with green's reach gated behind fight effects or "deals damage equal to power" framing rather than a flat number that points at any target. Portal blurred that boundary on purpose. The product line was built to onboard new players by leaning on legible verbs, and teaching someone that green can "sting" a creature or a face was simpler than explaining why it couldn't. The rate reflects that mandate rather than any balance concern: four mana for two damage at sorcery speed costs roughly double what a competitive burn spell would, because the early game in a beginner's deck was meant to stay slow and forgiving. No bonus conditions, no flexibility, just a plain effect a first-timer could read once and understand. What survives is a footnote rather than a precedent. Green never inherited point-and-shoot burn as a standing ability; the color went back to its fight spells and power-scaling damage the moment Portal's pedagogical exception expired. This is what green removal looks like when the design brief is teaching instead of competing, and it reads as a snapshot of that experiment rather than a doorway green ever walked through again.
