Beast Within

The trade is the whole conceit: green pays for unconditional removal it has no business owning, and the bill comes due in the form of a 3/3 handed to the destroyed permanent's controller. Green has never lacked for blowing up artifacts, enchantments, and lands; that part of the color pie is wide open. What it is not supposed to touch is creatures and planeswalkers, and that is precisely where the Beast token earns its keep. A 3/3 body is the counterweight that lets a green spell answer the thing green is barred from answering: meaningful enough to matter when you destroy a fair creature, trivial enough to ignore when you are pointing this at a combo piece or a problem land at instant speed. The breadth of "target permanent" is the rare part. Few removal spells answer everything in a single line, and almost none do it in green; the symmetry of the downside is the price of that universality. It reads cleanly as an exchange you usually win: you remove the thing that mattered, the opponent walks away with a vanilla creature instead of whatever you destroyed, and that swap flatters them only on paper. The card is built to look generous and play selfishly, and that tension is why it keeps showing up wherever green needs to reach past its allotted targets and hit something cleanly.
