Beacon of Destruction

Instant3 generic manaRed manaRed mana

Five points of damage that fold back into your library every time they resolve: the shuffle clause is the price this design charges for an answer that never empties. Over a long enough game the card represents an indefinite stream of removal or reach, cycling toward the top again instead of dying in the yard. That recursion is the signature of the Beacon cycle, a group of high-cost instants and sorceries that each return to the deck on resolution, built for grindy attrition decks that win by outlasting an opponent's answers rather than racing them. The cost is heavy and instant speed is the saving grace: the damage can finish a creature mid-combat, redirect to a planeswalker, or close out a player who tapped out. What it cannot do is be fast, and that is the deliberate seam. A five-mana spell that kills most things and can also point itself at a face is a luxury, not a tempo play; it rewards a deck with the time to recur it and punishes one that needs its mana early. The loop also lives entirely in the resolution: countered on the stack or discarded from hand, it goes to the graveyard like anything else, so the shuffle is a reward for casting it, not a guarantee of ever getting to.
