Baldur's Gate

Every Gate before this one asked you to accept a tempo hit (entering tapped, doing little on its own) on the promise that one day the count would pay off. This is where the count cashes out. The second ability scales its burst to the number of other Gates you control and filters the whole pile into a single color: five other Gates means five mana of any one color from one activation, converting a horizontal spread of otherwise-mediocre duals into a vertical shot of ramp exactly when you choose to fire it. The two-mana toll on that mode is what keeps a wide Gate board from spiraling into free acceleration; you pay to unlock the payoff rather than getting it passively. And because it arrives ready to use, tapping for colorless with no other Gates required, it still contributes in the games where your Gate density never materializes. That combination is the reward the subtype had been building toward since the first Gate rewarded you for nothing but showing up: a land that finally reads the board state the mechanic spent years quietly tallying, and turns the tally into mana on demand.
