Awe Strike
Most damage-prevention shields are reactive insurance: Healing Salve, Holy Day, the various fogs that buy a turn and ask for nothing back. This one inverts the deal by converting prevented damage into life gained, which turns a defensive trick into an arithmetic swing the size of whatever source you point it at. The conversion is what separates it from a plain prevention spell. Spend it on an incidental two-power creature and it reads as a minor speed bump; spend it on a swung-in fattie, an exalted or pumped-up attacker buffed past its printed power, or a pinger's tapped activation, and a single white mana erases the damage while padding your own total by the same amount. Because the shield catches the next instance of damage from one creature rather than blanketing the turn, it answers more than combat: an activated ping, the bite half of a fight spell, anything the targeted creature would deal. That timing window is the real lever. You can hold it through declare-attackers, watch the pump spells resolve, and only then decide which swing to neutralize, banking the inflated number as life. It rewards letting the opponent commit before you answer, a more aggressive posture than fog usually allows. The ceiling is high (a trampling or fight-boosted threat goosed to absurd size hands you a correspondingly absurd life total), but the floor is narrow: with no big number headed your way, the card is doing nothing.
