Color-changing was an enemy-color block's mechanical obsession, the hook of a set built around gold cards and the protection-and-color tension they create, and this Griffin is one of its quieter expressions. The repeatable activation doesn't help the body attack or block; it reaches across the board and recolors any permanent white, which matters only insofar as something else cares whether a permanent is or isn't white. That makes it a support piece for a board state rather than a self-contained threat, and the lever cuts in a specific direction: turning a permanent white makes it immune to white's usual color-hate (the kind that names black or red), shelters your own creature behind a friendly Protection from White, or denies an enemy attacker the ability to slip past your white blocker's protection. Recolor a creature to dodge a Circle of Protection mismatch or to feed a white-matters effect that wants more bodies under the right banner. The flying 2/2 is the floor: a fair evasive blocker carrying an engine whose value scales entirely with how much the rest of the table is paying attention to colors. In a block where color identity decided trades more than it had before or since, that activation read as live; outside that context, it is a niche tool, the sort of card whose ceiling depends on an opponent having walked into the exact corner where being white, or not, settles a fight.
