Aurochs

Creature — Aurochs3 generic manaGreen mana

A tribal lord that buffs only itself, which is a strange place for a design to land. The attack trigger reads the rest of the attacking creatures for fellow Aurochs and pumps this one's power for each, so the payoff scales with the herd but the bonus never spreads back across it. Trample is the deliberate other half: a 2/3 that swings as a 4/3 or 5/3 wants to push the surplus through chump blockers rather than waste it on a single creature. The catch is that this is a four-mana 2/3 whose attack-step muscle depends entirely on assembling a board of a creature type Ice Age and its successors printed in single digits, which is why the herd it asks for almost never arrives. The design at least knows its terms, though: an early experiment in tribal combat math from an era before "lord" meant a static team-wide anthem, when the developers were still testing whether a creature should be rewarded for the company it keeps. It anchors a creature type that stayed a footnote, and it reads today less as a playable threat than as a snapshot of 1995 fumbling toward how power might scale off shared subtypes, before the anthem solved the problem cleanly.
