Aurelia, the Warleader
The extra combat phase is the loud part, but it would be empty noise without the untap that comes attached to it. Granting yourself a second combat does nothing if your attackers are still tapped from the first one, so earlier "attack again" effects had to come bundled with vigilance or settle for a single tireless swinger. Untapping every creature you control on that first attack resets the whole board at once: dorks tapped for mana, blockers you held back, the attackers themselves. The body arrives with vigilance and haste, so the Angel hits the turn she lands and stays up to block on the way home, but the untap extends that same promise to the rest of the team. The "for the first time each turn" wording is the leash: she gives exactly one extra phase per turn, and because the trigger has already fired, untapping her does not buy a third swing. To loop the combats at all you have to manufacture a fresh Aurelia (a Helm of the Host token, a blink to reset her as a new object), not simply untap the one you have. That single restriction is why she reads as a finisher rather than a soft-lock. Built as the marquee red-white legend, she crystallized what the guild had always promised on paper: not just go-wide tokens or go-tall haymakers, but a turn structure that doubles your aggression and keeps your defenses honest at once. Few aggressive commanders convert a stalled board into lethal this directly, because the untap turns your own gummed-up battlefield back into a weapon.
