Augury Owl

Creature — Bird1 generic manaBlue mana

When scry returned as an evergreen keyword, plain commons like this Bird were how it was taught. The flier itself is filler: a 1/1 that chumps and trades for nothing. What earns the slot is the enters trigger, and the decision to dig three deep rather than scry 1 or 2 is the meaningful part of the design. Three looks let you bury two dead cards and still leave your keeper on top, so a deck that values consistency over raw card count gets a smoothing effect stapled to a body it can also block with. Scry was reintroduced precisely to handle that problem: filtering toward what you need without the card-disadvantage of looting or the deck-thinning of a fetch. The owl does not replace itself the way a true cantrip does; it pays in selection rather than cards, then leaves a flier behind as a parting gift. As a piece of teaching, it does the job cleanly, the kind of common where a newer player can immediately grasp why three peeks at the top of the library matter more than a single point of power.
