Athreos, God of Passage
Of the five gods in this design cycle whose devotion requirement gated their bodies, this is the one whose value engine never needed the body to matter at all. The death trigger fires whether the 5/4 is awake or sleeping under seven devotion, which inverts the usual pressure the cycle put on a deck: most of these gods asked you to commit to the board to animate them, but here the indestructible enchantment is content to sit back and tax every creature death you suffer. The trigger is built around ownership rather than control, so it follows creatures you sacrifice, lose to removal, or send to die in combat, and the only way an opponent stops the value is by bleeding three life each time. That is the tension worth dwelling on: against a deck already grinding a life total toward zero with sacrifice loops and drain effects, the "pay 3 life" out stops being an out at all, and the recursion becomes free. The single-opponent targeting reads as a constraint cleanest in one-on-one play, where the math is exact: the trigger is either a tempo tax they refuse to pay or a slow bleed they cannot afford. White and black is also the natural home for the small, expendable creatures this rewards replaying, which is why the engine reads less as a finisher and more as the spine of a grind deck that keeps recurring its best bodies until the opponent runs out of life to protect them.
