Ashnod's Cylix

Artifact2 generic mana

The activation reads "target player," not "you," and that single word reroutes the whole design. Because the chosen player is the one who looks, keeps one card, and exiles the other two, pointing this at an opponent hands them clean card selection while only trimming their library by two: a strange way to attack someone. The honest use is on yourself, where the same mechanism becomes a repeatable topdeck filter. You pay three and tap, look at three, keep the best, and exile the rest. The mana cost slows the dig deliberately rather than offering it for free; this is a smoothing engine that takes its time. The exile clause is the quiet teeth. Most filtering effects of this vintage bottom or bin the cards they pass over; this one removes them from the game entirely. That cuts in two directions. It sidesteps shuffle and reshuffle effects, since the discarded cards leave rather than returning to the deck, and it permanently thins the library so future draws improve. Aimed at an opponent who leans on graveyard recursion, the exile (chosen by them, but exile all the same) at least denies their bin two cards' worth of fuel, though they keep the one they most want back. The card embodies a flavor of attrition built on permanence over throughput: it never strips a whole library, but what it sets aside does not come back.
